You are invited to respond to this Call-for-Presenters for the University of Colorado at Boulder, School of Education, Teachers of Color and Allies Summit.  The summit will take place on October 29, 2012.  The theme for this year’s conference is “Critical Perspectives and Radical Possibilities for Urban Communities.” This vibrant conference will bring together educators, students, parents and community members from across the state. By presenting at our conference, you will have the opportunity to share knowledge and expertise, participate in training, and network with others that share in our vision of a culturally relevant education for all students.

Our goal is to provide a diverse and comprehensive educational program—one that engages participants in a variety of learning and sharing opportunities and is relevant for all.  Presentations should be interactive, engaging, insightful, innovative, informative and address topics relative to culturally responsive teaching, empowering parents as activist in their school communities, teachers as activist for educational equity, cultivating student voice, curricular and instructional strategies that teach for social justice, and school culture and climate for educators, students, and parents of diverse backgrounds.

The conference planning committee will select the presenters through a competitive review process.  Thank you for your interest in sharing your expertise!  Deadline to submit an application is 4:00 pm on Friday, September 28, 2012.  Please note that no application forms will be accepted after this date.

For more information about workshop proposal submission please contact Collinus Newsome Hutt, Director of Diversity, School of Education, University of Colorado, Boulder at (303) 735-0241 or Margarita Bianco, Assistant Professor, School of Education and Human Development, University of Colorado, Denver at 303-315-4956.

Bankstreet College of Education and the Occasional Papers

I found an incredible resource the other day and I thought I would share.  The Bankstreet College of Education publishes a collection they call the "Occasional Papers."  Here is what the site says about it's work: "The Occasional Papers Series is a forum for work that extends, deepens and challenges the progressive legacy on which the college is built. The series seeks to promote discussion about what it means to educate in a democracy and to meet the interrelated demands of equity and excellence."  I have perused the site and it's pretty amazing and I would encourage you all to so the same!
