Bankstreet College of Education and the Occasional Papers

I found an incredible resource the other day and I thought I would share.  The Bankstreet College of Education publishes a collection they call the "Occasional Papers."  Here is what the site says about it's work: "The Occasional Papers Series is a forum for work that extends, deepens and challenges the progressive legacy on which the college is built. The series seeks to promote discussion about what it means to educate in a democracy and to meet the interrelated demands of equity and excellence."  I have perused the site and it's pretty amazing and I would encourage you all to so the same!

Teachers of Color and Allies Summit 2012 INFO!

Teachers of Color and Allies Summit will take place on Monday, October 29, 2012 at the University Memorial Center, University of Colorado at Boulder.  Dr. Jeff Duncan-Andrade, Associate Professor in the Raza Studies Dept. & Educational Admin and Interdisciplinary Studies at San Francisco State University will be our keynote speaker (http://rosesinconcrete.org/about/).  Our theme for this year will focus on Global Education with an emphasis on cultural literacy and competency.  Please visit http://cutoca.blogspot.com/ to find out more information about the conference and how you can get involved!

Critics: DPS shortchanges black teachers

This is an article worth reading.  This past weekend more than 100 people fired up about perceived racial inequity in Denver Public Schools attended a meeting at the Green Valley Recreation Center in far northeast Denver. Global Competence

Recently, I stumbled upon the webpage of an organization called, "Asia Society."  Here is the mission of the organization: "Asia Society is the leading educational organization dedicated to promoting mutual understanding and strengthening partnerships among peoples, leaders and institutions of Asia and the United States in a global context. Across the fields of arts, business, culture, education, and policy, the Society provides insight, generates ideas, and promotes collaboration to address present challenges and create a shared future.  Founded in 1956, Asia Society is a nonpartisan, nonprofit educational institution with offices in Hong Kong, Houston, Los Angeles, Manila, Melbourne, Mumbai, New York, San Francisco, Seoul, Shanghai, and Washington, DC."  The article I read titled, "Global Competence: Prepare Youth to Engage with the World," was a great read.  It also comes with pdf copy of the book on the topic and discussion questions.  All of this is free by the way!  Check it out.
